死神，你莫驕橫，儘管有人將你看得

如何強大，如何可怖，你呀，名不符實；

你自以為已經把芸芸眾生毀滅，

Die .not， poor .Death， nor .yet .canst .thou .kill .me.

可憐的死神，他們沒死．你至今還殺不死我；

From .rest .and .sleep， which .but .thy .pictures .be，

休憩和睡眠，其實就是你的寫照，

Much .pleasure; then .from .thee .much .more .must .flow，

你定然比它們更讓人感到舒適愜意，

And .soonest .our .best .men .with .thee .do .go，

而我們最出色的人們隨你而去越早，

Rest .of .their .bones， and .soul「s .delivery.

越能早日讓靈魂獲救，肉體安息，

Thou .art .slave .to .fate， chance， kings， and .desperate .men，

你是命運、時機、君主和狂徒的奴隸，

And .dost .with .poison， war， and .sickness .dwell，

你與毒藥、戰爭和病魔同流合污，

And .poppy .or .charms .can .make .us .sleep .as .well

鴉片與巫術也能靈驗地進行蠱惑，

And .better .than .thy .stroke; why .swell「st .thou .then?

而且效果更佳，你又何必頤指氣使？
